Imran Ahmed Khan Niazi is a Pakistani politician, philanthropist, and former cricketer who served as the 22nd Prime Minister of Pakistan from August 2018 to April 2022. Born on October 5, 1952, in Lahore, he was educated at Aitchison College in Lahore, and later at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom.

Before entering politics, Khan gained international fame as one of Pakistan’s greatest cricket captains, leading the national team to its first and only ICC Cricket World Cup victory in 1992. After retiring from cricket, he focused on philanthropy and nation-building, founding the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Namal University, two of Pakistan’s most significant charitable institutions.

In 1996, he founded the political party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) with the vision of establishing justice, accountability, and anti-corruption governance in Pakistan. After years of political struggle, PTI emerged as the leading party in the 2018 general elections, bringing Imran Khan to power as Prime Minister.

As Prime Minister, Khan focused on anti-corruption reforms, welfare initiatives like the Ehsaas Program, environmental projects such as the 10 Billion Tree Tsunami, and sought to reposition Pakistan in global diplomacy. However, his tenure was also marked by economic challenges and political polarization. In April 2022, he was ousted from office through a parliamentary vote of no confidence.

Imran Khan remains a central and highly influential figure in Pakistani politics, admired by millions for his charismatic leadership, resilience, and commitment to national development.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was founded by Imran Khan on April 25, 1996, in Lahore. Initially established as a sociopolitical movement, PTI aimed to combat corruption and promote social welfare in Pakistan. The first Central Executive Committee of PTI was formed in June 1996 under Imran Khan’s leadership, with founding members including Naeemul Haque, Ahsan Rasheed, Hafeez Khan, Mowahid Hussain, Mahmood Awan, and Nausherwan Burki

Imran Khan, a former cricket star and philanthropist, led PTI to prominence over the years. The party gained significant support in the 2013 general elections, becoming the second-largest party in Pakistan’s National Assembly. In 2018, PTI won a majority of seats, and Imran Khan became the Prime Minister of Pakistan .

Despite facing legal challenges and imprisonment, including a 14-year sentence in early 2025, Imran Khan remains a significant figure in Pakistani politics. His leadership continues to influence PTI’s direction and political activities

In December 2023, Barrister Gohar Ali Khan was appointed as the second chairman of PTI, succeeding Imran Khan. However, Imran Khan resumed his role as chairman in June 2025
